Opinion 1

An inquiry has been made of the Commission concerning the propriety under Canon 3 of a judge accepting an invitation to attend a meeting sponsored by a political party for the purpose of reporting on and discussing pertinent matters relating to the judicial system.

It is our view that there would be no objection to a judge attending a meeting sponsored by a political party for the purpose of speaking on subjects concerning the judicial system.
